8 before 8

There are days that I feel like I can conquer anything. Today was one of those days.

I set out with a goal to walk 8 miles before 8 am. I rolled out of bed at 5:15 and was on the boardwalk by 5:30. I figured out I had enough time to get it done, but my pace would need to be brisk. It is easy for me to lose track of my pace because I am a multitasker when I walk. I get going on email or the social media sites and next thing I know my pace has dwindled.

Today I was pushed by the walkers around me. I set my pace off the locals and worked to keep up with them. One person could tell what I was doing and he finally jogged about 500 yards to move ahead of me. It is great to know that even in the world of walking there are people as competitive as me to push me along. By the time I reached my turnaround point I had passed everyone…even the person that jogged to get ahead.

I rolled back up to the hotel at 7:57 so I met my goal. It felt great to not only get in the 8 miles, but to meet a goal that early in the day really put me in the right state of mind for the rest of the day. I am going to focus on these types of goals to push me every day going forward.
